　　Have you ever seen a bird with pink feathers? The flamingo is a bright pink bird. It is five feet tall. Its pink feathers are really gorgeous. With a large wingspan, the birds almost give off their own light.

　　Flamingos are not born pink. Their pink color comes from their diet. Flamingos feed on snails, shrimps and crabs. A special element within the food gives their feathers a beautiful pink color. Without the food,they’d turn gray.

　　Flamingos produce a special oil. Daubing oil onto feathers is like putting on make-up. Their beaks are also used for daubing. The oil keeps their feathers waterproof. This makes the pink color last longer.

　　The pink becomes much brighter during the mating season. Both male and female birds will increase their oil during this period. The brighter the pink is, the more attractive the flamingo is.

　　到了求偶季节，火烈鸟身上的粉色变得愈发艳丽。这个时节，雄性和雌性火烈鸟分泌的油脂都大大增多。对火烈鸟来说，身上的粉色越是艳丽，在异性中就越是受欢迎。
