  Which one do you prefer?

  1) A company offering you a job with challenging and interesting projects but less vacation days.

  2) A company offering you a job that is not so challenging and interesting but more vacation days.

Ideally, I wish for my job to be challenging, interesting and also have lots of vacation days. The reality however is often harsh. If I am given a choice between an interesting joband a job with plenty of days off, I will choose the prior, as I believe an interesting job is more important than having more holidays.

Having a challenging job can be very rewarding. To give an example, my cousin had being interested in the designing industry since high school. Currently, she is working as a landscape architecture which her job is to design local residential areas for investors. Although it is a very tense job, and there are almost no vacations at all, she feels fulfilled because she is able to accomplish things that she is interested in, not mentioning the high salaries she receives from all that hard work.

Furthermore, having an interesting job is also an express toward a good career. In our competitive world today, people are often required to strive for the better in order to prevent themselves from being outcompeted by others. In this sense, having a boring job can prevent an individual from working hard intrinsically. For me, the cost of having long vacations may involve sacrificing that person’s future career. Thus in my opinion, I rather exchange my vacation days for a better and more interesting job as it is the best incentive for working hard for my future.

It is easier to be said than done in situations listed above. On the one hand, people know that working hard is essential for success in life. On the other hand, individuals are often stressed at work. Under such circumstances, vacation life becomes more appealing to them than they supposed to be. However, I think that vacation should not be the sole instrument for eliminating stress. I believe even in a work place, people should find ways to relax, such as taking a water break between presentations, or chat with co-workers during lunch hours. Such is why I believe it is still possible to work hard without having too much stress.

Overall, although I believe there are people who want to have more vacations for stress related reasons, I feel that in the long term, having an interesting and challenging job is better because it is most beneficial for one’s career and his or herown sense of well-being. Generally, I think it is important for people to balance their work life and their personal life, no matter how interesting or how boring the work will be.
